Sr. Advisor to Baseball Operations
Roy Clark is entering his third season with the Royals as Sr. Advisor to Baseball Operations.
Clark, who has spent nearly 40 years in professional baseball, is best known for his 25-year career with the Atlanta Braves, including a recent four-year run as the Special Assistant to the General Manager from 2015-16 and Senior Advisor to Amateur Scouting from 2017-18. Prior to that, he spent 21 seasons in the Braves organization from 1989-2009 as an Area Scout (1989-94), Southeast Supervisor (1995), National Supervisor (1996-1999) and Director of Scouting (2000-09). During his time in Atlanta, the Braves were named Baseball America’s Organization of the Year Award three times, in 19991, 1996 and 2005, and he was responsible for the signing of several players, including Jeff Francoeur, Freddie Freeman, Jason Heyward, Craig Kimbrel, Brian McCann, Kevin Millwood, Charlie Morton, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Adam Wainwright.
Between his stints in Atlanta, Clark spent four years from 2010-13 as the Assistant General Manager/Vice President of Player Personnel with the Washington Nationals. In 2012, Clark’s third year there, the Nationals were named the Best Minor League System in Baseball, according to Baseball America, and he played a key role in the signing of draft picks such as Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon and Lucas Giolito. Before returning to Atlanta, Clark spent the 2014 season as the Scouting Cross Checker for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Clark was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference infielder at North Carolina in 1979 and was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 24th round of the June Draft that same year. He played in the Mariners minor league system for four seasons and advanced as high as Triple-A in 1982. He remained with the Mariners organization following his playing career, spending one season as a minor league coach in 1984, and two seasons as an Area Scout from 1985-86. Clark also spent one year as an Area Scout for the Cleveland Indians in 1988.
