Join the Royals in honoring the Negro Leagues on Sunday, June 23rd and raise funds for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum! For Salute to the Negro Leagues Day, presented by Metropolitan Community College, Royals players will wear throwback Kansas City Monarchs uniforms from 1942 and Minnesota will wear St. Paul Gophers uniforms from 1908. The day of the game the Royals Authentics Store will host a silent auction featuring the game-used caps from both teams and the game-used bases. Also, the game-used and autographed jerseys from both teams and the game-used Monarchs batting helmets will be auctioned online, available at the bottom of this webpage or at mlb.com/auction. All uniform auction proceeds will benefit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
Several Negro League alumni will be available at a free autograph signing for fans in the Royals Hall of Fame from Noon -1 p.m. The alumni scheduled to appear are Diego Segui, Joe Azcue, Henry "Pistol" Mason, Jim Robinson, and Pedro Sierra.
In addition, we encourage all fans to come "Dressed to the Nines," wearing fashionable clothes that fit the time period to capture the spirit and atmosphere of what it was like for fans to cheer on their Monarchs by wearing their Sunday best.
The first 10,000 fans will receive a Kansas City Monarchs Short Bill Cap, courtesy of Metropolitan Community College.
