Tigers agree to terms with three Minor League free agents

The Detroit Tigers announced that the club has agreed to terms with three players on Minor League contracts for the 2019 season.

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers announced today that the club has agreed to terms with three players on Minor League contracts for the 2019 season.
The list of signed players includes righthanded pitchers Eduardo Paredes and Chris Smith and lefthanded pitcher Nick Ramirez. Paredes and Smith have received invitations to Major League Spring Training.
Paredes, 23, spent the 2018 season in the Los Angeles Angels organization, pitching for both Triple A Salt Lake and at the Major League level. In 14 appearances with the Angels, Paredes had a 0-0 record with a 6.87 ERA (18.1IP/14ER) and 15 strikeouts, while he went 2-1 with five saves, a 4.68 ERA (42.1IP/22ER) and 35 strikeouts in 38 outings with Salt Lake. In 232 career appearances at the Minor League level, Paredes has compiled an 11-13 record with 63 saves, a 2.84 ERA (295.0IP/93ER) and 327 strikeouts. He has also made 32 career appearances in the big leagues, posting a 0-1 record with one save, a 5.53 ERA (40.2IP/25ER) and 32 strikeouts.
Ramirez, 29, saw time with both Double A Biloxi and Triple A Colorado Springs in the Milwaukee Brewers organization last season, combining to go 11-3 with one save, a 3.95 ERA (68.1IP/30ER) and 51 strikeouts in 39 outings, including two starts. He was selected to the Southern League Midseason All-Star Team with Biloxi in 2018. Ramirez, who switched from being a position player to a pitcher in 2017, has appeared in 88 games, including two as a starter, over the last two seasons, compiling an 18-7 record with four saves, a 2.56 ERA (147.2IP/42ER) and 107 strikeouts.
Smith, 30, spent the entire 2018 season with Triple A Syracuse in the Washington Nationals organization, posting a 4-5 record with a 3.93 ERA (55.0IP/24ER) and 65 strikeouts. In 189 career Minor League appearances, including one start, Smith has a 12-15 record with 26 saves, a 2.93 ERA (255.0IP/83ER) and 278 strikeouts. He has also pitched in four games at the Major League level, all coming in 2017 with Toronto, and has a 0-0 record with a 5.40 ERA (5.0IP/3ER) and one strikeout.
