A member of the Tigers 1968 World Series Championship Team, Jim Price begins his 31st season overall on Tigers broadcasts and his 25th full season on the Tigers Radio Network.
- Originally joined Frank Beckmann on the Tigers radio broadcasts in June, 1998...had spent the first part of that season as a feature reporter on Bally Sports Detroit's pre-game and "Tigers Weekly" programs.
- Began his Tigers broadcasting career on PASS cable telecasts in 1993, serving as play-by-play announcer...broadcast Tigers games on cable for five seasons.
- Was also the third man in the booth during the Tigers over-the-air broadcasts on WKBD-TV from 1995-97...filled in for a handful of games as play-by-play announcer in 1997.
- Other broadcast credits include work as play-by-play man on Chicago White Sox cable telecasts, color commentary for ESPN college baseball and anchoring weekend sports on Detroit’s WJBK-TV.
- Assisted in the Tigers front office efforts, focusing on baseball participation camps...joined the organization in 1992 as the Director of Community Relations.
- Played five Major League seasons, all with the Tigers...played 64 games, 42 of them at catcher, for the 1968 team that defeated St. Louis in the Fall Classic.
- Had his contract purchased by the Tigers in April of 1967 after seven Minor League seasons with the Pirates.
- Named Minor League Player of the Year in 1963 while with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.
- A native of Harrisburg, PA, he was a three-sport star at Hershey (PA) High School...refused a number of college football scholarship offers to sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1960.
- Inducted into the Kinston (NC) Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995, the Hershey High School Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Central Pennsylvania Hall of Fame in 2008.
- He and his wife, Lisa, founded a not-for-profit foundation called JACK’S PLACE For Autism in October of 2002 to benefit children with autism...the foundation, named after their son who was diagnosed with autism, works to provide services for individuals and families affected by the neurological disorder.
- Because of the tremendous community and corporate support, the foundation’s five-year plan was reached in a little over a year...JACK’S PLACE For Autism partnered with Oakland University in Rochester, MI from 2004-08... JACK’S PLACE began to deliver programming and services to individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder, including soccer, basketball, swimming, baseball, arts and theater...programs also included family counseling, sibling groups, social skills groups, seminars and training sessions for parents, caregivers, physicians, teachers and counselors...To date over 11,000 children and adults throughout the State of Michigan have participated in JACK’S PLACE programs now delivered from Southfield, MI, and with many partners including The YMCA , Indian Trails Camp, Easter Seals and Center for Exceptional Families, ARC of Macomb to name just a few. JACK’S PLACE continues to develop a facility that will house “Quality of Life” programming and a long-term living environment, the first of its kind in the country...the Detroit Tigers in partnership with JACK’S PLACE host one of the longest running Autism Awareness Days in MLB. The Prices have also been honored to be the recipients of the Alvin Foon Humanitarian Award presented by the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation and Spirit of St. Nicholas Award presented by the St. Nicholas Institute.
