March 22nd, 2021

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Angels veteran was hit on his left arm by a pitch from Cubs right-hander Ryan Tepera in the third inning of Monday’s game and immediately exited for pinch-runner Livan Soto.

Pujols was diagnosed with a left wrist contusion. X-rays were negative and he is considered day to day, according to the Angels.

"He's fine," Angels manager Joe Maddon said. "Initial report is he's good. He's gonna be a little bit sore. But I think he's OK."

Pujols, 41, grabbed his left forearm/wrist area after being hit by the pitch. Pujols was 0-for-1 with a walk before coming out of the game and is having a solid spring, batting .382 with six RBIs in 14 games.

Pujols is slated to share action at first base with Jared Walsh this year and was serving as designated hitter on Monday. Walsh is expected to be the regular at first base.
