2 all-time teams rep Angels in Dream Bracket 2

ANAHEIM -- The 1979 Angels and the 2002 Angels are both participating in the MLB Dream Bracket 2: Dream Seasons, which begins on Thursday and is a 64-team best-of-seven simulation featuring two all-time teams from each of the 30 current Major League franchises (post-World War II), as well as three Negro Leagues teams and the 1994 Montreal Expos.

The simulation run by Out of the Park Baseball 21, MLB's most realistic strategy game (PC and Mac), includes 34 World Series-winning clubs and 18 teams with 100-win seasons, as well as 90 Hall of Famers, 23 MVPs and 14 Cy Young Award winners. Competition begins later this week and runs through early June.

Fans can make their picks in the MLB Dream Bracket 2: Dream Seasons Challenge and compete to win an MLB prize pack featuring a $500 Fanatics gift card and more. Game simulations will begin with 16 round-of-64 matchups being played on Thursday, followed by the remaining 16 round-of-64 matchups on Friday. The finals, which will feature the top teams from the American League and National League squaring off, will take place on Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9.

Here’s a look at the two Angels club participating and who they are facing in their brackets:

1979 Angels
Record: 88-74
Finish: Won AL West, lost in ALCS

The 1979 Angels were the first AL West champions in franchise history and won 88 games before being eliminated by the Orioles in the ALCS, three games to one. They were led by AL MVP , catcher , future Hall of Famer , second baseman , future Hall of Famer , right-hander Dave Frost and closer Mark Clear. Baylor, Carew, Ryan, Clear, Downing and Grich were All-Stars that season. Other notable players included lefty , shortstop , third baseman , center fielder Rick Miller, right fielder Dan Ford, left fielder and designated hitter Willie Aikens. They were also managed by Angels Hall of Famer Jim Fregosi.

The 1979 club has a tough first-round matchup, as they face the '61 Yankees squad that famously featured Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle on their chase to set the single-season home run record. That club won 109 games and defeated the Reds in the World Series in five games. If the Angels can get past the Yankees, they'd face the winner of the '85 Blue Jays and the '31 Homestead Grays of the Negro League.

2002 Angels
Record: 99-63
Finish: Second in AL West, won World Series

The 2002 club won 99 games and won the World Series against the Giants in a classic series that went seven games. The Angels were led by third baseman , shortstop , left fielder , center fielder , right fielder , second baseman , first baseman , lefty , right-handers and , closer and relievers , and . Mike Scioscia served as manager. Anderson was the club’s lone All-Star, while Kennedy was ALCS MVP and Glaus was World Series MVP.

The World Series champs are set to face the 1983 Orioles, who won 98 games and a Fall Classic of their own in five games over the Phillies. That club was led by Hall of Famers Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray. If the Angels get past Baltimore, they'll face the winner of the 2018 Red Sox and the '11 Rangers.
