The Cubs are celebrating their 150th anniversary in 2026. The 2026 team just accomplished something that no other squad has done in that rich history.
With a Michael Busch RBI single in the sixth inning Tuesday, Chicago had scored 30 consecutive runs since it last allowed one -- the most ever in franchise history. The previous record stood at 29 consecutive runs, set in September 1876 and May 1969, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
After the Mariners jumped out to a 2-0 lead in two innings of Sunday’s game in Seattle, the Cubs put together a five-run third inning, which featured a Michael Conforto solo home run and an Ian Happ grand slam. The Cubs then exploded for 14 more runs on Sunday -- including another grand slam from Pedro Ramírez -- for a 19-2 win.
Monday’s game saw seven more runs without an opponent scoring, as Kevin Gausman’s seven shutout innings and homers from Conforto and Carson Kelly powered another win. Another clutch Happ dinger, a three-run shot to open the scoring against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, was the penultimate addition to the record, before Busch’s hit.
The Cubs’ remarkable streak lasted through the eighth inning at Chase Field. After Clay Holmes followed Gausman’s gem with seven scoreless frames of his own, Arizona got to the Chicago bullpen for five runs -- including a Ryan Waldschmidt walk-off homer -- across the final two frames.
The ending overshadowed some impressive Cubs history, but it’s certainly worth highlighting a feat that had never happened in 150 years.
