Silseth continues to improve in the Minors (Sept. 15)
After a rough August, Chase Silseth is getting back to himself on the mound.
The Angels' No. 7 prospect allowed two or more runs in three of his four starts last month, but in September, he's allowed just two runs in three starts while tossing two scoreless outings, including a combined no-hitter. His most recent performance came in Double-A Rocket City's 5-2 win over Birmingham.
The right-hander tossed six scoreless innings, giving up two hits and three walks while fanning nine batters.
He got run support from top-ranked prospect Logan O'Hoppe, who crushed his 26th homer of the season as part of a three-hit night.
Silseth is in just his second professional season, but he's already gotten a glimpse of the Majors. The 22-year-old made his debut on May 13 and has started seven games for the Angels. He has consistently jumped back and forth between the Major Leagues and the Trash Pandas but has yet to pitch for Triple-A Salt Lake. -- Ethan Sands
Trio of '21 Draftees spin Rocket City's first no-hitter (Sept. 3)
You never forget your first, and for Chase Silseth, Luke Murphy, Eric Torres and Double-A Rocket City, this feeling will certainly last a lifetime.
The Angels prospects combined to twirl the first no-hitter in the club's young history as the Trash Pandas blanked Biloxi, 8-0, at Toyota Field.
"It's always awesome to be a part of something like that, but kudos to Luke and Eric for finishing it off," Silseth said. "But really it was never in doubt. Just with our whole team, there was never a doubt. It's special to be a part of this night and this whole team in general." Full story »
No. 7 prospect Silseth racks up 11 strikeouts for Double-A Rocket City (Aug. 28)
Right-hander Chase Silseth hit a new gear of dominance in his latest Double-A start.
The Angels' No. 7 prospect struck out a season-high 11 batters through six innings in the Trash Pandas' win over the Tennessee Smokies on Sunday, carrying a perfect game to the fourth inning before yielding two solo shots and a walk as the sole blemishes to his start.
Silseth, whose season ERA fell to 2.63 after Sunday, flashed his elite pitch mix in the outing, relying on his curveball as a putaway tool and playing it well off a fastball that tops out at 96 mph. -- Julia Kreuz
Quero falls single shy of the cycle (Aug. 21)
It was extra trouble when Edgar Quero was at the plate.
The No. 3 Angels prospect showcased his ability to produce as he went 3-for-3 with three extra-base hits in Single-A Inland Empire’s 5-0 win over San Jose.
The 19-year-old reached base safely in his five plate appearances, including two walks. Quero was a single shy of the cycle as he hit an RBI double in the fifth, an RBI triple in the first and a solo homer to left field in the third inning.
The catcher’s productive day improved his slash line to .315/.430/.536 this season. -- Edwin Perez
Neto collects four RBIs in third Double-A appearance (Aug. 12)
It seems like the Angels' first-round Draft pick Zach Neto is adjusting well to the professional life.
The 13th overall selection in the 2022 Draft has just been improving since making the jump to Double-A. He went 0-for-3 in his first outing with the Trash Pandas, then had a much better outing, going 3-for-5 with a double in his second appearance, and only got better in Rocket City's season-high 14-5 win over Biloxi.
It took the 21-year-old until the seventh inning to notch his first hit of the game on an RBI single to right field. But when he got started, he didn't stop, knocking a two-run single after the Trash Pandas batted around in the seventh in an eight-run inning. Neto's third RBI single of the night came in the ninth inning to tally his team's final run. He ended the night 3-for-6 with a career-high four RBIs. -- Ethan Sands
Newly acquired O'Hoppe and freshly drafted Neto succeeding at Double-A (Aug. 11)
The Angels' top prospect and first-round Draft pick are making noise at Double-A.
Logan O'Hoppe, MLB Pipeline's No. 84 overall prospect, crushed his fourth homer in as many games, while Zach Neto tallied his first hit and RBI in Rocket City's 3-1 win over Biloxi.
It only took Neto, who was drafted 13th overall in the 2022 Draft, seven games with High-A Tri-City before being promoted, and it took him just two games to record his first hit with the Trash Pandas. A first-inning RBI double to left field checked off two boxes for the 21-year-old.
The two teamed up to bring in the team's final bunch of runs after Neto singled to left, and O'Hoppe followed with a two-run jack to left-center in the fifth.
O'Hoppe was traded to the Angels in a deal that shipped outfielder Brandon Marsh to the Phillies. In just five games with his new team, the 22-year-old catcher has totaled four homers and seven RBIs. -- Ethan Sands
O'Hoppe clubs a pair of jacks for Rocket City (Aug. 9)
In just his fourth game with the Angels organization, Logan O'Hoppe appears to be right at home. And he's starting to feel like it too.
The club's recently acquired top prospect connected on a pair of home runs and posted three RBIs to power Double-A Rocket City's 5-4 victory over Biloxi at MGM Park.
"It was a quick turnaround, just like anything is in pro ball. It's just very different, things I just wasn't used to. So, the first couple of games were a little quick. I didn't really have my feet under me," O'Hoppe said. "I felt like I got drafted again. But, these guys have been great about welcoming me with open arms. I feel like I'm getting my groove now. Getting my feet settled under me again, just feeling good. And we've been winning too now so that's been fun."
The former Phillies top prospect was dealt to the Angels for Brandon Marsh at the MLB Trade Deadline. He made his debut with the Trash Pandas on Aug. 4 and immediately made an impact with a pair of walks and a run scored. O'Hoppe mashes first homer for Rocket City (Aug. 5)
After being traded from the Phillies to the Angels as part of the Brandon Marsh deal, Anaheim’s new top prospect (MLB No. 86) Logan O’Hoppe clubbed the first homer in his new organization in Double-A Rocket City’s 4-1 win over Tennessee.
The backstop didn’t record a hit in his first game with the Trash Pandas -- though he did reach base three times -- but collected one early in the following contest. O’Hoppe connected on a 1-1 pitch and deposited it over the left-field fence for a two-run homer. The 22-year-old is now one dinger shy of his career-high of 17 he set in 104 games last season. Before being dealt, O’Hoppe was slashing a solid .275/.392/.496 with 27 extra-base hits, 41 walks and 45 RBIs in 75 games with Double-A Reading. -- Stephanie Sheehan
Quero triple shy of the cycle (Aug. 3)
It was a tough task keeping Edgar Quero off the bases.
The Angels’ No. 9 prospect had reached base safely in each of his last four games. Quero continued that streak, going 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and two walks in Single-A Inland Empire’s 12-4 win over Rancho Cucamonga.
The 19-year-old’s productive day started with patience, walking in the first inning. Quero showed off his bat in his other plate appearances, hitting a single and double in his next two at-bats before crushing a solo homer to center field in the sixth inning.
The catcher’s impressive night brought his slash line to .318/.430/.508 on the season. -- Edwin Perez
First rounder Neto records first hit in pro debut (July 30)
Save that baseball!
Neto was selected 13th overall out of Campbell and was ranked 17th on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list. In three seasons with the Camels, he hit an outstanding .403 with a 1.283 OPS, ensuring plenty more where his first knock came from. -- Jacob Resnick
Bachman continues to build up on mound (July 29)
Right-hander Sam Bachman made his second start with Double-A Rocket City after missing nearly two months with back spasms. Bachman, the Angels' No. 1 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was mostly solid against Chattanooga, allowing one run over 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts -- but he walked three and needed 49 pitches to get seven outs.
The No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 Draft, Bachman will continue to ramp up his pitch count. Overall, he has fared well in Double-A, posting a 1.89 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 19 innings.
Harrison cycles on perfect day at plate (July 28)
Apparently hitting for the cycle wasn't enough for Monte Harrison.
An inning after completing the milestone, the Angels outfielder added a second double for good measure to equal a career high with five hits as Triple-A Salt Lake rolled past Reno, 11-4, at Greater Nevada Field. Harrison's cycle was the first by a Bee since Michael Hermosillo on May 1, 2018.
The 26-year-old might not have had a historic night on his mind when he took the field, but he got the two hardest legs of the cycle out of the way quickly. Harrison connected on his seventh homer of the year to right field in the second inning and brought home another run with his first triple in the fourth. A two-out single in the fifth put the former Marlins prospect on the precipice, and he finished it off with an RBI double in the eighth.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder doubled home his fifth run of the contest in the ninth to notch his first five-hit game since 2015 and his first five-RBI effort since 2016. Full story »
