HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros have finalized their 2026 Major League coaching staff with the additions of Ethan Katz as an assistant pitching coach and Tim Cossins as a catching instructor. The two join manager Joe Espada and the remainder of his staff, which is listed below. The coaching additions were announced by Astros general manager Dana Brown.

Katz spent the last five seasons (2021-25) as the pitching coach for the White Sox, where he worked with both young and veteran pitching staffs. During his four-year tenure in Chicago, which included a postseason appearance in 2021, the White Sox ranked third in the AL in strikeouts per 9.0, trailing only the Astros (9.27) and Yankees (9.18) in that span. Katz also has Major League coaching experience with the Giants (2020) and minor league coaching experience with the Giants, Mariners and Angels.

Cossins joins the Astros staff after spending parts of the last seven seasons (2019-25) as the Orioles major league field coordinator and catching instructor. Cossins is an experienced catching instructor, having worked with catchers for parts of the last 19 seasons. In addition to his time with the Orioles, he also spent six seasons as the minor league field and catching coordinator with the Cubs (2013-18) and another six years as a minor league catching coordinator with the Marlins (2008-12). A former catcher, Cossins appeared in 255 career minor league games (1993-99) between the Rangers, Yankees, and Expos organizations.
