Hayden Wesneski's long journey back to the Majors could be drawing to a close.
The 28-year-old right-hander, recovering from May 2025 Tommy John surgery, made what could be his final rehab start on Friday with Triple-A Sugar Land, throwing 83 pitches (53 strikes) over 4 1/3 innings of work. He allowed an unearned run on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Although the Astros have not yet indicated whether Wesneski will get another Minor League start before returning, Friday night's injury to Spencer Arrighetti (right foot nerve irritation) could influence their decision. Should Arrighetti be unable to make his next scheduled start, Wesneski would, at minimum, be on turn.
Wesneski, acquired by the Astros from the Cubs in the December 2024 Kyle Tucker deal, made just six starts for his new club before suffering his right elbow injury. In his career, Wesneski has posted a 4.01 ERA in 74 appearances (28 starts).
