Outfielder had high school jersey retired on what town deemed Jonny Gomes Day

Jonny Gomes, OF, Athletics

Hometown: Petaluma, Calif.

There are three numbers engraved on Jonny Gomes' mitt and on his cleats: 707, the area code for his hometown of Petaluma, Calif.

Gomes graduated from Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, earning All-League honors, and he is a hometown hero there today. On Feb. 11, 2006, his No. 1 jersey was retired on what the city deemed "Jonny Gomes Day."

Gomes went on to attend Santa Rosa Junior College, but his heart resides in Petaluma. During his time in MLB, he has sponsored a handful of Petaluma Little League Teams, and he works with Camp for a Cure, a charity baseball camp in Petaluma that raises money for cancer and lupus research.
