On July 7, 8 and 9, the Lady Jays hosted the 33rd Annual Lady Jays Food Drive in support of Food Banks Canada. The weekend was an overwhelming success! The 2017 Food Drive raised over $46,000 through the sale of mystery bags and monetary donations. These funds were enthusiastically matched by Sprott Foundation, doubling the fans impact, making the total monetary donations to Food Banks Canada over $93,000. Fans also generously donated 4,161 pounds of food throughout the weekend. The food donations are shared with Food Banks Canada's local Affiliate Member food bank: Daily Bread Food Bank. Daily Bread Food Bank supports approximately 170 member agencies that operate a variety of food relief programs across Toronto.
The Lady Jays Food Drive is the Blue Jays' longest standing community initiative, and each year raises awareness about hunger and food bank use in Canada. Food Banks Canada supports ten provincial associations and over 480 food banks nationally. Through Food Banks Canada's National Food Sharing System, every dollar raised helps to acquire and share $20 worth of food and consumer products with individuals who require assistance. Food Banks Canada' works to alleviate hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow.
Any fans who wish to assist Canadians in need can do so by visiting foodbankscanada.ca or by visiting their local food bank to donate food, funds or volunteer their time.
