Acuña (bruised foot) hopes to play in Cincy

PHILADELPHIA -- Ronald Acuña Jr. rejoined the Braves in Philadelphia on Thursday and said his bruised left foot was feeling good. But the team decided to give him one more day of rest, with the hope he’ll return to the lineup on Friday in Cincinnati.

“That’s what I’m hoping for,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said.

Acuña spent the past few days receiving treatment in Atlanta. He made great progress over that time and was able to run the bases without any problem before Thursday night’s game against the Phillies.

“I feel healthy and back to normal,” Acuña said through an interpreter.

Acuña fouled a pitch off his left foot in the third inning of Saturday night’s game against the Dodgers and exited in the eighth inning. He used a medical scooter because it was too painful to put pressure on the foot on Sunday. But X-rays and an MRI exam showed no fracture.

“When they did the tests, everything was negative,” Snitker said. “With anything like that, it’s just a matter of [pain] tolerance.”
