MILWAUKEE -- The Cubs have seen Jacob Misiorowski at his best and at his not-so-best this season. On Tuesday, they will see him one final time in 2026 -- unless these rivals meet again in October.
Misiorowski is scheduled to make his fourth start this season against the Cubs and his second in a row on Tuesday night at American Family Field. He’s coming off a slog of an outing at Wrigley Field last Wednesday in which Misiorowski once again struggled to find his footing on a road mound, needed 92 pitches for four innings and surrendered five earned runs to match his season high.
It was not vintage Misiorowski, although the Cubs have seen that, too. Even with last week’s relative dud, he is 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in three starts against the Cubs this season, with 21 strikeouts in 16 innings. The Brewers have won all three games.
That’s what was most important to the 24-year-old after the team rallied to win his shaky start in Chicago last week.
“That’s all I want to talk about, really,” Misiorowski said. “That was electric. To have the guys come behind me and put up run after run after run was awesome. In a big game like this, it helps out.”
Misiorowski’s first start against the Cubs in Milwaukee on June 26 was memorable for being the night he threw a 105.5 mph fastball to Chicago star Pete Crow-Armstrong for the third pitch of the game, tying for the third-fastest fastball ever tracked by Statcast in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008).
Then the Cubs made him work. They spoiled premium velocity, extended at-bats and finally broke through when Seiya Suzuki opened the fifth inning by launching a 90.1 mph slider the opposite way for a homer, ending Misiorowski's no-hit bid and giving Chicago a 1-0 lead.
The Brewers rallied for a 6-2 win. It was their 50th victory of the season.
"They had a game plan coming in to battle me and foul stuff off," Misiorowski said. "They stuck with it, and more power to them."
One more time in the regular season, the sides will face off again.
