The Diamondbacks added four players to their 40-man roster Tuesday, protecting them from being selected by another organization in next month's Rule 5 Draft.
Left-handers Kohl Drake and Mitch Bratt -- both of whom were acquired from the Rangers at the Trade Deadline in exchange for Merrill Kelly -- as well as right-hander Dylan Ray and shortstop Jose Fernandez had their contracts selected and added to the 40-man roster.
To make room on the 40-man, the Diamondbacks designated left-hander Tommy Henry, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and outrighted right-hander Christian Montes De Oca to Triple-A Reno.
The moves bring the 40-man roster to 40.

Players first signed at age 18 or younger must be added to 40-man rosters within five seasons or they become eligible to be drafted by other organizations through the Rule 5 process. Players signed at 19 years or older have to be protected within four seasons. Clubs pay $100,000 to select a player in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft. If that player doesn't stay on the 26-man roster for the full season, he must be offered back to his former team for $50,000.
Drake is Arizona's No. 6 prospect per MLB Pipeline, while Bratt is No. 9. Neither Ray nor Fernandez were listed in MLB Pipeline's Top 30 for the Diamondbacks.
Henry, 28, was selected by the Diamondbacks as a Competitive Balance Round B pick (74th overall) in the 2019 Draft after a stellar career at the University of Michigan.
Henry made his big league debut in 2022 and had a 5.36 ERA in nine starts that season. He appeared in 17 games (16 starts) for the Diamondbacks in 2023 and had a 4.15 ERA. He split time between Reno and the big leagues in 2024 and, in 2025, made 11 Triple-A appearances and two in the big leagues before undergoing surgery.
