D-backs bolster front office, baseball ops

Club announces promotions, new positions across organization

The D-backs announced a series of staff changes in the club's baseball operations department on Thursday, including promotions, new hires and newly created positions.
In the front office, the D-backs made four promotions: Burke Badenhop to special assistant to the general manager, Peter Wardell to assistant director of international scouting, Ian Rebhan to amateur scouting coordinator, and Cory Swope to Minor League video coordinator.
The D-backs made four new hires in the front office: Jason Parks as professional scouting director, Robert Van Scoyoc as hitting strategist, Max Phillips as an analyst in baseball operations research and development, and Alex Lorenzo as diversity pipeline fellow. Van Scoyoc and Lorenzo join the organization in newly created positions.
The organization also announced four new positions outside the front office, including two external and two internal hires. Daniel Bard joins the franchise as a player mentor. Bard pitched five seasons with the Red Sox from 2009-13. Kelvin Kondo will serve as an interpreter for pitcher , who was signed by the D-backs in December. Jeff Mousser fills the national pitching supervisor role in the amateur scouting department. Junko Yazawa joins the organization as a manual therapist and athletic trainer at the Major League level.
In scouting, the D-backs promoted Bill "Chief" Gayton to Major League scout. He had spent the past six seasons as a professional scout.
There are five new hires in Major League and professional scouting. Alex Jacobs joins the organization as a special assignment scout. Gaby Hernandez will work as a scout-ahead professional scout. Tucker Blair, Jack Goin and Drew Hedman will serve as professional scouts.
There are four new hires in amateur scouting. Hudson Belinsky will be an area scout in Georgia. Mark Ross will be an area scout in Four Corners. Garry Templeton II will serve as an area scout in Southern California. Jeremy Kehrt will work as an area scout in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.
There were two promotions in international scouting and Latin operations. Francisco Cartaya was elevated to crosschecker, while Mariana Patraca will serve as an assistant for Latin operations.
There are six new hires in international scouting and Latin operations. Antonio Caballero will serve as a scouting supervisor in Venezuela, where David Chicarelli and Gregory Blanco will serve as scouts. Omar Rogers will work as a scouting coordinator in the Dominican Republic, where Ronald Rivas will serve as a scout and Diego Bordas will work as a scout and video coordinator.
The D-backs also announced six additional hires in player development, including three coaches and three members of the medical staff.
Jonny Gomes will serve as hitting coach for the Rookie Arizona League D-backs. Gomes played 13 seasons in the Major Leagues from 2003-15. He won a World Series championship with the Red Sox in '13 and another with the Royals in '15. Gomes was a career .242 hitter in the big leagues, with 162 home runs and 526 RBIs.
Rafael Ozuna will manage the Rookie Dominican Summer League D-backs and Alvin Alcantara will be the pitching coach. Ozuna was a coach in the Dodgers' Minor League system from 2015-17. Alcantara held the same position with the Marlins' Rookie DSL team from 2011-17.
Damon Reel will serve as the trainer for Rookie-Advanced Missoula. Phil Montano will work as the trainer for the Rookie AZL D-backs, and Logan Jones will be the strength coach.
