SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The D-backs made a pair of roster moves on Sunday afternoon, designating catcher Chris Herrmann for assignment and adding left-handed pitcher Jorge De La Rosa to the 40-man roster.
Herrmann had been competing for the third catcher spot with John Ryan Murphy. While that would appear to mean that Murphy has made the team, both manager Torey Lovullo and general manager Mike Hazen said the team was still discussing the final roster construction.
Hazen said it was still "likely" that the team would carry three catchers.
De La Rosa, meanwhile, pitched for the D-backs last year and was signed to a Minor League contract after camp opened this year.

According to both Lovullo and Hazen, De La Rosa's performance last year when he was 3-1 with a 4.21 ERA in 65 games was weighed far more heavily than his results this spring.
By adding De La Rosa, it appears the D-backs are down to just one open bullpen spot, with T.J. McFarland, Michael Blazek and Kris Medlen still in camp.
The team continues to keep an eye on the waiver wire, but believes the final pitching spot will come from someone already in camp.
Good as gold
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt was struck in the helmet by a pitch during a Minor League game against the Rockies, but Lovullo said the slugger stayed in the game and had two more at-bats.
Goldschmidt was uninjured according to the team, and he sent word through a club spokesperson that he was fine.

Ray's day will come
With Zack Greinke not set to be ready until the third game of the season, Lovullo selected Patrick Corbin to start Opening Day against the Rockies.
Lovullo also considered lefty Robbie Ray, who was dominant last year while going 15-5 with a 2.89 ERA. In the end, though, Ray was already lined up to start the second game of the season and Lovullo did not want to disrupt his routine.
"Robbie's time is coming," Lovullo said. "He eventually will be an Opening Day starter. We feel strongly that he's that caliber of pitcher."

Speaking of Ray
Ray threw in a Minor League game Sunday to avoid facing the Rockies just six days before he sees them in the regular season. Over 6 1/3 innings, he allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out 12 and not allowing a walk. He threw 86 pitches.

Greinke, who suffered a groin injury in mid-March that delayed his spring work, will start Monday night in an exhibition game against the Indians at Chase Field. Listen to the game live on Gameday Audio.
Greinke's last outing was Wednesday in a back-field game, and if Monday's outing goes well, he is expected to start Saturday in the finale of the regular season opening series against the Rockies.
