McFarland (shoulder) set for rehab assignment

April 14th, 2019

PHOENIX -- D-backs left-hander will begin an injury rehabilitation assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Reno as he works his way back from shoulder inflammation.

“He’s ready for the next step,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said on Sunday.

McFarland opened the year on the injured list, and he recently made a few appearances in extended spring games at Salt River Fields.

Before activating McFarland, the D-backs would like to see him pitch multiple innings and back-to-back days on a rehab assignment, Lovullo has said. So it still could be a little bit before McFarland is back.

In other injury news, right-hander will throw another bullpen session Tuesday. Walker is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery last May.

Third baseman (strained left quad) initiated some baseball activities Saturday. Lamb, who injured the muscle April 3, was expected to miss approximately six weeks.

Catcher , who landed on the injured list on April 7 with a strained left quad, also has started some baseball activities. Avila’s strain is not as serious as Lamb’s, and he was not expected to be out for very long.
