Porter wins fourth straight challenge
Astros skipper rewarded as replay ends Mariners' threat in 10th
HOUSTON -- Astros manager Bo Porter didn't waste any time challenging a close play at first base with two outs in the top of the 10th inning of a tied game on Friday night and was rewarded for his efforts.
The Mariners' Robinson Cano was called safe after appearing to leg out a two-out grounder, prompting Porter to challenge the call. Replay showed that Astros second baseman Jose Altuve threw in time to get Cano at first base for the final out of the inning.
The call was overturned, giving Porter a successful challenge.
The decision loomed huge, considering it would have put the winning run on base with sluggers Corey Hart and Kyle Seager due up for the Mariners. Instead, the Astros left the field and prepared to bat.
They won the game on George Springer's walk-off single in the 11th inning, 5-4.
Porter has won four of his five challenges this season, and four in a row.
