Bochy successful in challenge vs. Dodgers

LOS ANGELES -- In Sunday's series finale, the Giants successfully initiated a challenge on a seventh-inning call that extinguished a Dodgers rally before it started.

With one out, Dodgers speedster Dee Gordon swung at a Jeremy Affeldt pitch and hit a dribbler in front of home plate. Catcher Buster Posey pounced on the ball and threw wide to first base. Joaquin Arias stretched to take the throw and, in doing so, removed his right foot from the base. Umpire Paul Schrieber appeared to be ready to call Gordon out but gave the "safe" sign instead.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy quickly requested a video review, which confirmed that Arias had kept his foot on the bag long enough while catching Posey's peg. The overturned call improved Bochy's percentage of effective challenges to .714.
