Call at second stands after Matheny challenges

CHICAGO -- Matt Carpenter was called out in the third inning on a sideways slide into second base that invoked a challenge from manager Cardinals Mike Matheny.

After a 3 minute, 44 second review, replay officials ruled that second-base umpire Mike Muchlinski's original call stands, giving the Cubs' defense its second out of the inning.

Carpenter was tagged by Cubs second baseman Emilio Bonifacio after lining to center and trying to extend the play. He was credited a single.

The Cardinals had a 1-0 lead at the time of review after Matt Holliday homered in the first.
