Umpire Scott leaves after face mask hit by foul ball
SEATTLE -- Home-plate umpire Dale Scott left Wednesday's game between the Mariners and Blue Jays prior to the third inning after taking a foul ball off his face mask. First-base umpire Todd Tichenor took over behind the plate.
In the top of the second, Toronto's Jose Bautista fouled off a pitch that glanced off catcher Humberto Quintero's mask and into Scott's. The inning proceeded after Scott was checked out by a trainer. Scott finished the second inning, but left the game before the start of the third.
