Mets have mixed results on challenges vs. Phils

PHILADELPHIA -- So sure were the Mets that they were going to win a manager challenge in the fifth inning Saturday that they did not bother sticking around for the result.

As umpires reviewed the original call of a successful stolen base for Domonic Brown with two outs in the inning, a replay on Citizens Bank Park's left-field scoreboard clearly showed that Brown was out. So the Mets all trotted off the field and into the dugout, arriving there about a minute before umpires overturned the call.

"They scolded me," manager Terry Collins said of the umpires. "I took it like a man, like I always do. It's not the first. It won't be the last. They just saw the replay on the board so they came off the field. They're supposed to stay on the field. They've been out there so much, they wanted to get off."

The successful challenge was Collins' sixth of the season in 10 tries. It came with the Mets leading, 3-0, over the Phillies.

Four innings later, Collins was not so successful. With his team trailing by a run, the Mets manager challenged second-base umpire Doug Eddings' ruling that the Phillies caught Curtis Granderson stealing second base. After a brief review, umpires confirmed the call, dropping Collins to 6-5 in manager challenges.
