Werth's confirmed double gets Nats off to quick start

Umpires review ruling after Williams asks for clarification

MIAMI -- It took just three batters into Monday night's Nationals-Marlins game for the first instant replay review.

Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth connected on the sixth pitch from Marlins left-hander Brad Hand with two outs. The ball bounced off the padding above the out-of-town scoreboard in left-center field, and was ruled a double.

Nationals manager Matt Williams asked crew chief Joe West for the umpires to review play. After a one-minute, 50-second delay, the call was confirmed. Werth then scored on Bryce Harper's ensuing triple to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.

Williams did not use his challenge on the call.
