Wisler outduels Rockies prospect at Double-A

Right-handers Matt Wisler and Eddie Butler may grow accustomed to pitching against each other in the National League West for years to come. But on Monday the two pitchers, who are both ranked on MLB.com's Top 100 prospects list, faced off in the Texas League.

Wisler, the Padres' No. 3 prospect, outdueled Butler, the Rockies' No. 2 prospect, and San Antonio defeated Tulsa, 2-1.

Making his third start of the season, Wisler struck out six batters in five shutout innings. He allowed three hits and walked three batters. He lowered his ERA to 2.08 and has a 17-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 13 innings.

Right-hander Jesse Hahn followed Wisler's strong start with two shutout innings. Hahn is piggybacking on Wisler's starts this season, an arrangement that has worked well so far. Building off a strong Spring Training, Hahn, the Padres' No. 13 prospect, has struck out eight batters in 7 2/3 innings and has yet to allow a run.

Butler, ranked No. 39 on the Top 100 list, allowed two runs and struck out five batters in 6 2/3 innings.

Left fielder Rymer Liriano, the Padres' No. 6 prospect, gave the Missions the lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning. It was his first home run of since 2012 after missing all of last season due to Tommy John surgery.
