Phils, Rox use replay three times in eventful finale

DENVER -- The Phillies and Rockies had three replay challenges Sunday in a wild game at Coors Field.

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley helped the Phillies pick up a big out with the first challenge in the sixth inning in a 10-9 victory over the Rockies.

Rockies pinch-hitter Corey Dickerson hit a ball up the middle with a runner on third and no outs with the Rockies holding a one-run lead. Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins made a great diving catch and threw to the plate to get Rockies catcher Jordan Pacheco in a rundown.

Phillies catcher Wil Nieves ran Pacheco back to third, throwing to Freddy Galvis, who applied the tag for the first out. Galvis then fired the ball to Utley, who kept his glove on Dickerson's leg as he reached the bag. But Dickerson's foot momentarily left the bag, although second-base umpire Todd Tichenor did not see it.

Utley immediately signaled to the Phillies dugout to ask for a review.

One minute and 24 seconds later, umpires overruled the safe call. Dickerson was out.

"The double play," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. "Just wild. I walked by [Utley] and said, 'What do you got, Chase?' And he said, '100 percent.'"

The Rockies successfully overturned a safe call in the top of the ninth inning. Galvis hit a ground ball to second baseman Josh Rutledge, who bobbled the ball. First-base umpire Tim Timmons called Galvis safe, but replay correctly overturned it.

Umpires also looked at the final play of the game, when it looked like first baseman John Mayberry Jr.'s foot might have come off the bag on Galvis' one-hop throw to first.

"I had a pretty good feeling," Mayberry said. "I was pretty sure, but until you see the replay it's not official."

Replay confirmed Mayberry's foot never left the bag.

Said Rockies manager Walt Weiss: "The last one, the last out of the game, I wasn't sure if he might have pulled his foot. He did a heck of a job pulling that throw out of the dirt. That was a tough throw to pick. I thought he might have come off the bag. At that point the game was literally on the line, so I asked them to go ahead and review that one. I thought the other one [in the top of the ninth], same thing, it was a run-scoring play. It was worth a challenge and we felt like we were going to win that challenge after seeing the replay."
