In the top of the first inning, the Phillies won their review. Carlos Ruiz hit a ground ball to shortstop Ed Lucas, who threw to first baseman Garrett Jones. First-base umpire Ted Barrett called Ruiz out, but Jones' foot came off the bag.
Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg challenged the ruling on the field, and after a review that took two minutes and 29 seconds, the call was overturned and Ruiz was called safe at first. Ruiz ended up coming around to score on Ryan Howard's double, giving the Phillies a 1-0 lead and sparking a two-run inning.
Miami benefited from review in the top of the second, with the score tied at 2. Phillies left fielder Domonic Brown tapped a grounder that deflected off pitcher Nathan Eovaldi's glove. The ball went to Lucas at short, who threw to first. Initially, Barrett ruled Brown safe.
Marlins manager Mike Redmond challenged the ruling, and after a review of one minute and 22 seconds, the play was overturned and Brown was ruled out.
