Play stands after Twins challenge call vs. Padres

SAN DIEGO -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire issued and lost his second challenge in as many days on Wednesday night against the Padres.

Gardenhire's challenge came in the eighth inning after Chris Parmelee grounded out to second baseman Jedd Gyorko to end the inning. First-base umpire Andy Fletcher ruled Parmelee out on a close play, and Gardenhire asked for the play to be reviewed.

After a review that lasted one minute and 18 seconds, the call stood and Parmelee was out at first base to end the inning.

It was the ninth challenge issued by Gardenhire this season with four of those calls getting overturned via replay. Gardenhire also lost a challenge on Tuesday, when he asked for a replay review of a close play at first base involving Aaron Hicks on a sacrifice bunt.
