Replay confirms call after Pirates challenge

PITTSBURGH -- A challenge by Pirates manager Clint Hurdle on a play at the plate was confirmed in the eighth inning against the Nationals on Friday.

Kevin Frandsen was called safe at home as he took off on a passed ball by Russell Martin. The ball ricocheted off the backstop and Martin was able to get it to reliever Bryan Morris, who was covering home, but Frandsen was called safe on the field and the replay confirmed the call after a 37-second review.

Frandsen's run cut the Pirates lead to 4-3, but Morris got out of the inning without allowing any more runs.
