Washington issues challenge, but call is confirmed
ARLINGTON -- The Rangers needed an overturned call to keep the Blue Jays from taking a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning. They didn't get it as manager Ron Washington lost his challenge on Anthony Gose's steal of third.
Gose, who led off the inning with a double against Rangers reliever Aaron Poreda, was at second with one out and Melky Cabrera at the plate. On an 0-1 pitch, Gose broke for third and slid in just as catcher Robinson Chirinos' strong throw arrived.
Third-base umpire Hal Gibson ruled Gose safe and Washington challenged.
After the play was reviewed, the call was confirmed.
Gose stayed at third and scored on Cabrera's slow grounder up the third-base line. Washington is now 4-for-9 in challenges this year.
