Flowers positive he tagged Morneau out at plate

White Sox catcher Tyler Flowers was convinced he tagged out Justin Morneau not once, but twice, in the fifth inning of Chicago's 4-2 win over Minnesota on Tuesday. The replays seemed to back him up, too.

Morneau started the inning with a double and came around as Twins designated hitter Oswaldo Arcia hit a ground-ball single into right field. Alex Rios fielded the ball and made a sharp throw to Flowers in time to make the play.

Flowers sprawled out at home plate, seemingly tagging the sliding Morneau on the shoulder before he touched the plate. Home-plate umpire Jordan Baker initially made no call, so Morneau reached back toward the plate -- when Flowers appeared to tag him again -- and Baker ruled him safe.

"It was a nice slide. Worked in our favor," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said, grinning, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Saw [Morneau] diving all over the place. Don't think I've seen him hit the ground that many times in a long, long time, so he's feeling really confident, really comfortable."

That pulled the Twins within one run of tying the game, and they tied it in the seventh, before the White Sox pulled away by scoring two runs in the eighth. Jake Peavy, Flowers and manager Robin Ventura all argued against the call to no avail.

"I knew I tagged him the first time," Flowers said after the game. "I look at the umpire and he's not doing anything, so you kind of have two choices. You can either be an idiot and sit there complaining or you can tag the guy again because he's off the plate. He saw the play differently."
