About Us

Major League Baseball Umpire Camps is a non-profit entity providing world class umpire training with opportunities for attendees to earn scholarships to one of the two professional umpire schools/academies. Over a hundred attendees have earned full scholarships to attend umpire school over the last 16 years. More than 160 MLBUC attendees have been offered jobs umpiring in Minor League Baseball. Many are currently working in pro ball today.

MLBUC offers attendees the opportunity to improve all facets of their work -- e.g., plate work, base work and positioning, rules interpretations, situation management and Mechanics for the Two-Umpire System, the system worked in the lower Minor Leagues. MLBUC also features "Tips from the Athletic Trainer" to improve your physical well-being and prolong your career, nutritional counseling and safety presentations.

An opportunity to learn with the pros

The Major League Baseball Umpire Camps assists umpires in furthering the advancement of their college, high school and Little League umpire careers. The camp will also serve as a preparatory course to those considering a career as a Major or Minor League umpire.

Major League Baseball is working along with Major League Baseball's current and former umpires and Minor League Baseball to provide attendees the best umpire training course available.

Umpire Camps FAQ

Do I need to have any umpiring experience to attend a free one-day clinic?
Absolutely not! We encourage participants of all umpiring levels to attend our free one-day clinics. Whether it's your first day on the field or you have been ringing batters up for 30 years, you are bound to learn something new from our incredible staff.

What if it is raining?
Our MLBUC Clinics will always proceed rain or shine!

What should I wear?
Please wear appropriate clothes for doing umpiring drills. We find that most participants are the most comfortable in athletic attire or your base gear. If you have plate gear, certainly bring that along as we get all umpires in the cages to call balls and strikes. Flat-bottom shoes only; No cleats please!

Will I have to sign anything to participate?
All participants must sign a standard liability waiver upon arrival. If you are under 18, please note that you will need a parent or legal guardian to co-sign.

Is pre-registration required?
If you want to stay ahead of the game, you can always register ahead of time. But if you have a friend who wants to join last minute, no worries. We always accept walk-ups on the day of the clinic!

Will there be an opportunity to earn a scholarship?
Our staff is always on the lookout for individuals who are interested in working as an umpire in professional baseball. We award scholarships to both our annual Pro Mini-Camp (a sort of pre-Umpire School prep course) as well as both of the two professional umpire schools! Be sure talk to our instructors at your next clinic and let them know you’re interested in making it to the big leagues!
