PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies recalled right-hander Chase Shugart from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday to replace right-hander Seth Johnson, who was optioned.
Johnson joined the Phillies on Monday, when the club placed right-hander Jonathan Bowlan on the 15-day injured list with a strained right groin.
But Johnson threw 50 pitches in 1 2/3 innings in a 13-7 victory over the Cubs, making him unavailable for at least a couple of days.
So, Shugart is up. He has a 1.80 ERA in five relief appearances this season with the IronPigs. The 29-year-old righty has a 3.52 ERA over 41 big league appearances the past two years with the Pirates and the Red Sox.
