Where are the Phils' cream uniforms?

April 11th, 2022

PHILADELPHIA -- A few eagle-eyed observers noticed Saturday that the Phillies wore their red-pinstripe home uniforms against the A’s at Citizens Bank Park, instead of their cream home uniforms, which the Phils have worn exclusively for home day games for years.

They wore red pinstripes again on Sunday.

What gives?

“They weren’t able to deliver the uniforms in time,” Phillies executive vice president Dave Buck said Sunday morning. “It’s a shame because our fans really like them. But the supplier [Fanatics] is backed up and doing the best they can.”

The Phillies wear retro powder blue uniforms for Thursday home games. Those also have not arrived. But on Monday there was communication between the Phillies and Fanatics about it. Those uniforms are expected to arrive in the next few weeks.

Fanatics tweeted an official update on Monday, saying, “The Phillies cream uniforms will be available soon. After coordinating with MLB and Nike, Fanatics communicated to clubs that some uniforms could be slightly delayed due to the shortened Spring Training window and expedited start to the season.

“Players are custom fit for uniforms each year during Spring Training and the shortened calendar impacted traditional production timelines. We look forward to the Phillies having their full assortment of uniform options in the very near future.”

There are about 2,200 players measured for uniforms every spring. Typically, there are weeks to do it, but this year Fanatics measured players in only nine days because of the lockout-shortened spring. Fanatics told the Phillies they would prioritize their regular home and road uniforms, with the alternate uniforms arriving later.
