Outfielder Cozens summoned to Phillies in corresponding move

LOS ANGELES -- stepped into the batter's box with a broken jaw on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.
He doubled to left field.
It could be a while before the Phillies see Hoskins again. A CT scan following Tuesday's victory over the Dodgers revealed a fractured jaw after he fouled a pitch off his face Monday, and Hoskins was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Thursday. The move was retroactive to Wednesday.
"Obviously, it makes it a little bit tougher knowing that I can play with little to no pain," Hoskins said Wednesday. "But you have to put your health first at some point. It's just an unfortunate situation."

The Phillies recalled outfielder Dylan Cozens (.755 OPS in 189 plate appearances) from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move.
Hoskins is hitting .233 with six home runs, 28 RBIs and a .778 OPS in 216 plate appearances. He has struggled for more than a month, but he remains one of the Phillies' most important pieces in the lineup.
It is expected , and will see the majority of playing time in the outfield while Hoskins is out. Triple-A outfielder would have been a lock in this situation, but he again is sidelined with an injury.
"I've said all along Rhys is one of our better hitters and one of the top offensive players in baseball, in my opinion, and so it would be difficult to not have him in the lineup," Kapler said. "He's also an emotional leader in our clubhouse, so if he were to be a DL, there would be disappointment with that."
Hoskins got cleared to play by Dodgers physicians, but he had a CT scan as a final check to make sure he was OK.
Hoskins said he was surprised on Wednesday morning when he learned about the results.
"I haven't seen the actual CT scan," he said. "As far as I know, it's small. But we're seeing a specialist tomorrow in Philly. Obviously, he knows a lot more about jaws than a lot of us do. Hoping to get more information."
Hoskins does not know how much time he might miss.
"I think there has to be a time period where, surgery or not, there's going to be time for it to get healed," he said.
Hoskins said the recovery without surgery essentially involves time and soft foods.
"A lot of smoothies," Hoskins said.
