May 16th, 2023

Prior to tonight’s game against the San Francisco Giants, the Phillies optioned left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter to triple-A Lehigh Valley. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Erich Uelmen was recalled from Lehigh Valley.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement.

Over eight appearances (7 starts) for the Phillies this season, Falter, 26, has gone 0-7 with a 5.13 ERA (23 ER, 40.1 IP). Falter opened the season in the club’s starting rotation but worked a career-high 4.1 innings in relief last night at San Francisco.

Falter was a fifth-round selection of the Phillies in the 2015 MLB Draft. For his major league career, the Chino Hills, Calif., native has gone 8-12 with a 4.56 ERA in 50 games (24 starts), all for the Phillies (2021-23).

Uelmen, 26, has appeared in seven games with the IronPigs in 2023, where he has gone 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA (1 ER, 8.2 IP), which included six scoreless appearances (6.2 IP) to begin the season. The Las Vegas, Nev., native made his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2022 and went 2-1 with one save and a 4.67 ERA (14 ER, 27.0 IP) over 25 games, all in relief.

Originally selected by the Cubs in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB Draft, Uelmen was acquired by the Phillies in exchange for cash considerations on Jan. 4, 2023.
