PNC PARK AND LECOM PARK - NETTING

The Pittsburgh Pirates will extend the protective netting at PNC Park, as well as at the team’s Spring Training home, LECOM Park, in Bradenton, Fla. The new netting systems will now stretch nearly the length of the first and third base foul lines at both ballparks in order to allow for a safer viewing environment.

The netting system has been designed for maximum transparency, all while protecting fans in the lower seating bowl from projectiles such as foul balls and flying bats. To ensure fans still have ample opportunity for player interaction and pre-game autographs, the Pirates have added a number of openings within the new netting system that will be open prior to the start of each game.

PNC PARK NETTING EXTENSION Q & A

Q. Why are you extending the netting?

A. Fan safety has been and will always need to be a top priority at PNC Park. The netting extension provides even more options for fans to sit close to the action along the baselines without concern for their safety and that of their family.

Q. How far will the netting system extend?

A. The new netting system will extend to section 1 down the first base line and to section 32 down the third base line.

Q. Will the new netting obstruct the views of fans?

A. The netting system has been designed for maximum transparency, all while protecting fans in the lower seating bowl from projectiles such as foul balls and flying bats.

Q. Will fans still be able to interact with the players?

A. It was important for the Pirates to maintain direct connection opportunities between players and fans. To ensure fans still have ample opportunity for player interaction and pre-game autographs, the Pirates have added a number of openings within the new netting system. Those openings include several along each baseline that will be open prior to the start of each game to allow for that direct fan interaction with Pirates and visiting players.

Q. Will this type of netting extension also be seen at other Major League Ballparks?

A. Yes. In 2020, every ballpark in Major League Baseball will now have netting extend nearly the length of each foul line.

Q. Will I have the option to move my seats in light of the new netting system?

A. Yes. We encourage all Season Ticket Holders to contact their Pirates representative with any questions they may have concerning the new netting system, or to make an appointment to come to the ballpark to better gauge the sight lines from their seats once the install is complete.
