Pirates acquire RHP Jeanmar Gomez from Indians in exchange for minor leaguer Quincy Latimore

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired right-handed pitcher Jeanmar Gomez from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for minor league outfielder Quincy Latimore. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The 24-year-old Gomez went 5-8 with a 5.96 ERA (90.2ip/60er) in 20 games (17 starts) with Cleveland last season and 6-5 with a 4.41 ERA (69.1ip/34er) in 11 starts with Triple-A Columbus.

Gomez was originally signed by the Indians as a non-drafted free agent on April 5, 2005, and made his Major League debut in 2010. He allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight of his 11 starts with Cleveland that season.

He has posted a 14-16 record, 5.18 ERA (206.2ip/119er) and 112 strikeouts in 42 appearances (38 starts) in his big league career.

The Pirates now have 40 players on their 40-man roster.
