Served as the Red Sox’ Jimmy Fund captain. Missed a majority of the season after undergoing a successful right elbow ulnar collateral ligament repair with internal brace on 5/30...The procedure was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas at the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopedics Center in Birmingham, Ala. Allowed two runs or fewer in each of his four starts, including one or no runs in three of them (1.96 ERA, 18.1 IP, 1 HR). In six Spring Training starts, was 3-0 with a 2.49 ERA, 22 SO, 3 BB and a .193 opponent AVG (21.2 IP, 6 ER, 16 H). Made his third Opening Day roster (also 2021-22 BOS). Earned the win in the Sox’ fourth game of the season on 3/31 at SEA (5.0 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 0 BB , 8 SO). Exited the game on 4/16 vs. CLE after the fourth inning with left oblique tightness. Was placed on the 15-Day Injured List on 4/17 with a left oblique strain...Made one rehab start with Triple-A Worcester on 5/15 (4.2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, BB , 5 SO). Was transferred to the 60-Day IL on 6/2.

On 4/10, agreed with BOS on a four-year contract extension that spans the 2023-26 seasons, with club options for 2027 and 2028. Did not allow a hit over 4.0 scoreless innings to earn the win in relief on 4/12 at DET (BB, 2 SO, 39 pitches)... Became the first pitcher in Sox history to throw fewer than 40 pitches in a hitless relief outing of at least 4.0 innings...Was the 16th pitcher in MLB history to do so, the first since Derek Lowe on 4/20/13 with TEX vs. SEA. Earned his first save of the season on 4/19 vs. TOR, tossing a perfect ninth inning. Picked up the save on 8/26 vs. TB after retiring each of his three batters faced in the ninth inning (SO). Placed on the 15-Day IL on 9/21 with a right hip impingement and missed the remainder of the season. Underwent a successful right hip arthroscopy on 9/26, performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

2019-2020
Underwent Tommy John surgery in July 2019, missing the remainder of that season and all of 2020...Has reached as high as the Double-A level, most recently in 2019 when he spent the entire season with Trenton and posted a 3.07 ERA (24 ER/70.1 IP) in 14 starts.

In 2018, his 1.86 ERA (25 ER/120.2 IP) was the 2nd-lowest among Yankees minor leaguers...Was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for 4/30-5/6.
