CINCINNATI — The Reds activated right-handed reliever Graham Ashcraft on Sunday from the 60-day injured list while left-handed reliever Sam Moll was designated for assignment.
Ashcraft, who had been on the IL since May 29 with a UCL sprain in his right elbow, had five rehab assignment games with Triple-A Louisville and posted a 3.86 ERA. In 26 appearances for Cincinnati before his injury, he had a 3.33 ERA. He will likely resume his role as a high leverage reliever in the later innings.
Facing the Brewers in his first game back from the injured list on Sunday, Ashcraft allowed one run in one inning of work. He walked the first two batters he faced and allowed an RBI single to Bo Naylor before retiring the next three (two via strikeout) to limit the damage in a 12-8 Reds win.
Moll was second on the club with 65 appearances this season while going 2-7 with a 4.79 ERA. He stranded 27 of his 42 inherited runners and retired 49 of 65 first batters faced.
On Friday during a 10-7 loss to the Brewers, Moll inherited a bases-loaded, no outs situation from starter Rhett Lowder in the fifth inning and had disastrous results. He hit his first batter to force in a run, gave up a one-out triple for three runs and later allowed another run on a wild pitch.
