Souza returning from DL; Motter to Triple-A

July 2nd, 2016

ST. PETERSBURG -- Steven Souza Jr. will rejoin the Rays after playing just one rehab game for Class A Advanced Charlotte. The outfielder has been out with a left hip strain since June 16.
Tampa Bay will activate Souza off the disabled list and option utility man Taylor Motter to Triple-A Durham, the team announced after a 10-0 loss to Detroit.
Souza was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored for the Stone Crabs on Friday, where he played right field. He injured his hip attempting a diving catch in a game against the Mariners. He had 10 home runs and 25 RBIs before the injury.
Motter was hitting .188 in 33 games for the Rays and had just five extra-base hits. He played all over the diamond, including all four infield positions and the corner outfield spots. On Friday night, with the Rays down 10-0, he actually came into pitch, and allowed one hit in one-third of an inning.
