Bill Cosgrove is the sole owner and chief executive officer of Union Home Mortgage, a high-growth, full-service retail, wholesale and consumer direct independent mortgage banking company. He has accrued over 39 years of mortgage banking industry experience since the beginning of his career in 1986 as a residential loan officer. He later joined Union Home Mortgage in 1994 and became its sole owner in 1999.
As a result of Cosgrove's leadership, Union Home Mortgage has experienced incredible growth, expanding from two branches and 35 Partners in 1999 to 165 branches and more than 2,100 Partners nationwide. He has developed a multi-award-winning culture and operating philosophy that grew the company from its humble roots in Cleveland to a nationally acclaimed mortgage bank. Today, Union Home Mortgage is among the largest independent mortgage banking companies in the United States.
Cosgrove was awarded the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Andy Woodard Distinguished Service Award in 2016, the highest recognition an individual member of the MBA can receive. He is proud to have been inducted into the Bedford (Ohio) High School Distinguished Hall of Fame for his mortgage banking accomplishments. He was named a “40 Under 40” executive by Crain’s Cleveland Business.
Cosgrove is very involved in sports, from funding a youth baseball program in his hometown of Bedford to sponsoring the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl, played annually at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
On Sept. 30, 2025, he was part of the lead investors ownership group that purchased the Tampa Bay Rays, with Patrick Zalupski as managing partner and co-chairman, Cosgrove as co-chairman and second-largest investor, and Ken Babby as president and chief executive officer. He was raised in Uniontown, Penn. and Bedford, Ohio. He currently resides in Venice, Fla. and Sharon Township, Ohio.
