Arenado's Hit-the-Mitt HR good for $5K donation

First-inning, two-run shot will benefit Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

July 14th, 2019

DENVER -- Rockies third baseman helped raise money for the fight against cancer with his first-inning home run Saturday night at Coors Field.

Arenado’s two-run shot into the left-field corner, part of a four-run bottom of the first against Reds starter Tanner Roark, landed on the Hit the Mitt for Charity canvas -- which activated a $5,000 donation for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society from sponsor UCHealth, through the Colorado Rockies Foundation.

The non-profit funds cutting-edge research to advance cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.

It was the first home run to Hit the Mitt and activate the donation since the program was instituted before the 2018 season. It also was Arenado’s 21st homer of the season.

The homer traveled a projected 400 feet, according to Statcast.
