CarGo donates $100K to Boys & Girls Clubs
Rockies outfielder notes importance of education
DENVER -- Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, through his charitable foundation, donated $100,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver on Tuesday. Gonzalez and his family made the presentation during a ceremony in the Rockies' dugout at Coors Field before the game against the Padres.
Gonzalez said he garnered support from several Denver-area corporations to help with the donation. In 2014, Gonzalez's foundation raised money for Denver Kids (which assists Denver Public Schools), the Denver Advocacy Center and the Boys & Girls Clubs, and will begin working with organizations in his home country of Venezuela, according to the foundation's website.
Gonzalez's wife, Indonesia, their 6-year-old son, Santiago, and their 10-month-old twin girls, Genova and Carlota, were with him Tuesday. The donation was not baseball-specific.
"It's for everything," he said. "Of course, education is No. 1. Like I always tell my children and all kids, education is first and sports second. When you have an education, you can do everything in life. You're prepared for everything. Sports, when you have the talent, if you have the education, you can take advantage of it."
