Phillips day to day with right shoulder contusion

CLEVELAND -- Royals manager Ned Yost confirmed Wednesday what left-hander Danny Duffy told MLB.com on Tuesday night, that Duffy indeed will be shut down for the rest of 2018 because of a left shoulder impingement. The injury is the same one that put Duffy on the disabled list Aug. 13. Duffy faced seven batters Tuesday night against the Indians before leaving the game. "We have a process," Yost said. "Were we going to shut him down anyway? Probably. But what we do is wait and get more information. It should never have come out the way it came out.
"We don't have time [to bring Duffy back this season]. He was injected [with an anti-inflammatory] last time. You can't inject him again this soon. It will take time to get that inflammation out." Yost also said they may stick with a six-man rotation, which he had been planning with right-hander Ian Kennedy's likely return on Sunday. This way, he can evaluate more potential starters, like Glenn Sparkman and Eric Skoglund. "We're evaluating our options," Yost said. Phillips day to day Rookie outfielder Brett Phillips, who suffered a right shoulder contusion on Tuesday night when he crashed into the right-field wall, said he was still feeling the aftereffects Wednesday.
@Indians I’m sorry about your wall, you’re definitely gonna need to fix it in the off-season. Thank you to everyone who reached out, I appreciate the concerns. All will be fine on my end, continued prayers for the wall though. #WallAlwaysWinshttps://t.co/s4gu496QnV
