Thursday's top Spring Training prospect performers

April 1st, 2022

Here's a look at Thursday’s top performers at Spring Training from each team's Top 30 Prospects list.

Julio Rodríguez, OF (MLB No. 3)
The legend of Rodríguez grew a bit more on Thursday as he continued his stellar Spring Training. The 21-year-old raced around the bases for an inside-the-park homer, singled and walked in three plate appearances. Rodríguez scored all three of Seattle's runs and swiped his third bag in Cactus League competition. Overall, he's batting .360/.429/.720 with five extra-base hits, two homers, seven runs and six RBIs in 10 games. Rodríguez hit a career-high .347 with a 1.001 OPS in 74 games with High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas in 2021.

Phillies: Bryson Stott, SS (MLB No. 45)
Stott continues to collect knocks in camp with another multihit performance against the Yankees. The 24-year-old showed off his ability to hit to both fields with a single to right against starter Jameson Taillon and a double to left off Wandy Peralta an inning later. Philadelphia’s top-ranked prospect has hits in his past five games and has notched at least one hit in seven of his nine games this spring, good for a .550 average with a homer, two doubles, three RBIs, five walks and just four strikeouts in 20 at-bats.

Brewers: Garrett Mitchell, OF (No. 3)
Mitchell had something of a lowkey day, collecting two singles after replacing Lorenzo Cain in center in the sixth inning against the Angels. The 23-year-old has only appeared in three games this spring, but he’s notched a hit in two of the three games with a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Taken 20th overall in the 2020 Draft, Mitchell had a stellar pro debut in High-A last season with a .359/.508/.620 line in 29 games, but struggled after his promotion to Double-A, hitting just .186/.291/.264 in 35 games.

Royals: Vinnie Pasquantino, 1B (No. 5)
Kyle Isbel, OF (No. 7)

Pasquantino has been getting plenty of looks in Spring Training thus far, and the 24-year-old earned his first multihit effort in 13 appearances with a homer to right off A’s No. 13 prospect Daulton Jefferies and a single to left in the eighth. It was his first long ball in 10 days as Pasquantino boosted his spring average to .391 with two homers, two doubles, two walks and six RBIs.

Isbel had a multihit game of his own, smacking two doubles (both off Jefferies) and scoring a run. The 25-year-old led off the game with a double to right and collected another two-bagger to center two innings later. Isbel spent 28 games with Kansas City last season and made a good impression, batting .276/.337/.434 with seven RBIs, seven walks and eight extra-base hits.

Pirates: Diego Castillo, INF (No. 21)
Castillo clubbed a homer for the second straight game, taking a 1-2 changeup from Keegan Akin and parking it over the fence in center for a 410-foot bomb. Coming over from the Yankees last July as part of the Clay Holmes trade, the 24-year-old smacked two dingers on Wednesday and has left the yard four times in his past four games, giving him a strong .364/.417/.909 line with seven RBIs in 22 at-bats as he makes a late push to make the Opening Day roster.

D-backs: Geraldo Perdomo, SS (No. 8)
Perdomo is putting together a nice surge as the final week of Spring Training gets underway. The 22-year-old went deep on Wednesday and singled in two at-bats. There were no long balls for Perdomo on Thursday, but he singled twice, scored a run and walked to boost his Cactus League slash line to .304/.360/.478 in 23 at-bats. Perdomo made his big league debut at the end of last year after playing with Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno.
