Senior Director - Royals Hall of Fame
Curt Nelson enters his 25th season with the ball club and his first as Senior Director of the Royals Hall of Fame. Nelson spearheaded the development of the Royals Hall of Fame, which debuted on July 17, 2009, and continues his work to preserve the history of the franchise while also overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Hall of Fame, Kauffman Stadium Tours and Educational Programs. He also serves on the Royals Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council and has done so since its inception in 2018 with the mission to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment through intentional engagement and support for our people, culture, and community. In addition, he is co-chair of the Baseball Heritage Group
Nelson joined the Royals in 1999 as a seasonal staffer holding the position of Pre-Game Coordinator/Group Sales Assistant and subsequently served as Group Sales/Marketing Assistant, Coordinator of Advertising & Promotions, Marketing Manager, and Director of the Royals Hall of Fame. He played an instrumental role in developing promotions such as T-Shirt Tuesday and special events including Girls Night Out, Viva Los Royals and Royals FanFest. He also worked with MLB Advanced Media to create the Royals Hall of Fame website (royalshalloffame.com).
He was part of the team that created the Emmy-nominated "This Is Kansas City" advertising campaign in 2006 and, as Director of Marketing, won a 2008 Emmy Award for the Royals Holiday Television Spot (2007). During the 2012 All-Star Game he served as the club's ASG Volunteer Coordinator and the All-Star FanFest Hometown Heroes Coordinator. Nelson has represented the club on MLB Network's 'Baseball IQ' game show, appeared in the feature program 'MLB Network Presents: Royal in Kansas City, 30 Years Later' chronicling the 1985 and 2015 World Series Championship seasons in Kansas City, and helped tell the Bo Jackson story in ESPN's 'You Don't Know Bo' 30 for 30 documentary. He is the author of "So You Think You're a Kansas City Royals Fan?: Stars, Stats, Records, and Memories for True Diehards" which is a collection of stories from Royals history from the should be well-known to the slightly more obscure. Nelson also authored features in 'A Golden History' the Royals official 50th Season Celebration book.
The Tulsa, OK native graduated from Cascia Hall Preparatory School before earning his bachelor of business administration from the University of Oklahoma (1990). He also holds a master's of business administration (1992) and masters of education-sports administration (1993), both from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He resides in Kansas City, MO.
