Special Assignment Scout
Darwin Pennye was named a Special Assignment Scout in February, after spending the last five years with Kansas City’s Urban Youth Academy, including the last four years as the Executive Director. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Urban Youth Academy, which provides the youth of Kanas City with a dual opportunity, to develop into high-character, productive members of society, and to learn the skills of baseball.
Prior to joining the Urban Youth Academy, Pennye had a successful career as a High School Athletic Director, coach and educator in Texas. He most recently served as the Athletic Director and head baseball coach for the Logos Preparatory Academy in Sugerland, Texas. Before that, he was the Athletic Director and head football coach for three seasons at Bay Area Christian High School in League City, Texas. He also served as an assistant coach at St. Pius High School in Houston and was a minor league coach in the Houston Astros organization for two seasons.
Pennye career as a coach and educator followed a five-year professional playing career from 1988-92. He was a 37th-round pick by Pittsburgh in the 1988 Draft, and spent four years in the Pirates organization, before playing for the Montreal Expos Double-A team in 1992. Pennye played baseball collegiately at Texas State University and was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Honor in 2018.
