Mauer slated to take live batting practice

HOUSTON -- Joe Mauer was scheduled to take live batting practice on Wednesday at Target Field.

The All-Star catcher, who was placed on the seven-day concussion list on Aug. 20, was transferred to the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, with the move retroactive to Aug. 20. With expanded rosters in place, Mauer is eligible to return whenever the Twins deem him ready.

Mauer was scratched from the lineup on Aug. 20 after experiencing dizziness during batting practice. He had taken a foul tip off the facemask the night before, causing a minor bruise to his forehead. He has now missed 15 games.

Mauer had been an ironman of sorts until that, ranking second on the team in games played (113), with 73 of those behind the plate.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire added no further details, stating, "He's coming along."
