Minnesota Twins Homestand Highlights: September 23-29

Twins to host the Angels and White Sox for the final homestand of the 2022 regular season; Theme Nights, Giveaways, Special Events and/or Ticket Deals available for all six games

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins return to Target Field tonight to start their final homestand of the 2022 regular season, as the club will host the Los Angeles Angels for three games through Sunday – including Fan Appreciation Weekend presented by Caribou Coffee tonight and tomorrow, and Kids Appreciation Day presented by Target on Sunday – before welcoming the Chicago White Sox for three games next Tuesday-Thursday. Tonight’s homestand opener is scheduled to feature the first-ever Minnesota pitching performance by the Angels’ Shohei Ohtani, whose historic two-way excellence resulted in 2021 American League Most Valuable Player honors, opposing Twins rookie, St. Paul native and Concordia University product Louie Varland in his Target Field debut.

Tickets for the Twins’ final homestand of the 2022 season are available for purchase via twinsbaseball.com, by calling 612-33-TWINS or 1-800-33-TWINS, or in-person at the Target Field Ticket Office.

Hurricane Fiona Relief

The Twins are partnering with nonprofit organization El Fondo Boricua, a donor-advised fund of the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation, to match all donations made during this weekend’s Twins-Angels series (up to $10,000) to provide relief in Puerto Rico following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Fiona. Fans can donate at elfondoboricua.org; all funds will be granted to nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations on the island of Puerto Rico by way of the Minnesota Puerto Rican community.

The Minnesota Twins organization is proud to celebrate and thank Twins Territory during this weekend’s three-game series vs. the Los Angeles Angels, which includes Fan Appreciation Days presented by Caribou Coffee tonight (Friday, September 23) and tomorrow (Saturday, September 24), followed by Kids Appreciation Day on Sunday, September 25. Exclusive Twins beanies will be handed out at the Target Field gates all three days (first 20,000 fans on Friday and Saturday; first 5,000 kids 12-and-under on Sunday); fans will receive a special “Twins Pull Tab” containing one of four prizes (first 25,000 fans 18 and older on Friday and Saturday; first 10,000 kids, 12-and-under on Sunday); and the Twins will select up to four “Lucky Rows” each game to receive a special Twins Prize Pack.

Twins’ AR Experience (All 6 games)

The Twins and Minneapolis-based ARound, a shared augmented reality platform, have partnered to bring the first-of-its-kind, shared AR experience to Target Field. Using the ARound app (available via iOS or Android here), fans can point their smartphone at the field to open up a universe of multi-user AR games such as Batter Up, Blockbuster and Fishing Frenzy – all designed to be played by interfacing with the physical ballpark and fellow fans in real time.

Twins and Vikings on Sunday

The City of Minneapolis plays host to a big sports Sunday on September 25, as the Vikings host the Detroit Lions at U.S. Bank Stadium (12:00 p.m. kickoff), while the Twins play the Los Angeles Angels at Target Field beginning at 1:10 p.m. The Twins encourage all fans to plan ahead, arrive early and consider all transportation options available, including pre-reserved, discounted Twins game day parking in Ramps A & B and the Hawthorne Ramp.

  • Gary Sánchez Swing for the Fences Scholarship Winners: The Twins are proud to recognize and honor the three winners of the Gary Sanchez Swing for the Fences scholarship, which, in partnership with the Minnesota Twins Community Fund and Bold.org, seeks to support underrepresented students in Minnesota the financial resources necessary to pursue their education and swing for the fences in life. The three winners, each of whom will receive a $10,000 scholarship, will be celebrated on the field prior to the game:
  • Angel Zheng from Cannon Falls, a first generation Asian-American student who hopes to achieve her goal of becoming a psychologist and use her life experiences to help others.
  • Melina Figueroa of Coon Rapids, who aspires to impact other people the same way her mother brought a positive light into her life; a first-generation LatinX student, she plans to pursue the study of dermatology.
  • Janaan Ahmed, who grew up in Minneapolis and has been working full-time in professional childcare for three years; this scholarship will allow her to pursue a degree in Teacher Education from the University of Minnesota.
  • Postgame Fireworks: The final postgame fireworks show of the season will be set to the top songs and fan-favorite hits from summer 2022.

  • Hispanic Heritage Night: The Twins will continue their celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month by spotlighting the on-field excellence and native cultures of their many Latino players, while showcasing Hispanic music and traditions through performances and activations on the field, on the videoboard, throughout Target Field and on the club’s digital platforms before and during Tuesday night’s game.
  • Dominicanos Unidos en Minnesota: Founded in 2011 by a group of Dominicans looking to conserve and share their culture and traditions in Minnesota, Dominicanos Unidos en Minnesota first showcased its folklore dance in 2016 and has been performing ever since. Their dances have African, Taino and Spanish influences, all of which represent the diaspora of Dominican culture.
  • Grupo de Danzas Colombianas: A nonprofit organization founded 20 years ago, Grupo de Danzas Colombianas includes children, teens and adults performing a combination of modern Latin dance rhythms and Colombian folkloric dance. The goal of the group is to support and cultivate Colombian culture and create awareness in the community of the enormous natural wealth and richness that characterizes Colombia.
  • Tropical Zone Orchestra: Directed by Caguas, Puerto Rico native Pedro Fonseca (who also plays trumpet), Tropical Zone Orchestra breathes new life into the rich musical tradition of the Caribbean through its fusion of Puerto Rican, Mexican, Venezuelan and American styles, making it a favorite among jazz and salsa fans alike. The group will perform on the Third Floor Balcony in leftfield throughout the game.
  • National Anthem (Alma Casto Rendon): The national anthem will be performed by Alma Casto Rendon, a small business owner and the lead singer of Mariachi Mi Tierra, the oldest mariachi band in Minnesota. Casto Rendon graduated from Augsburg University in 2021 with a degree in finance and business administration, and uses her skills in this area to support small business owners in her community. In her free time, she enjoys keeping the storied tradition of mariachi music alive through her singing.
  • Ceremonial First Pitch (Ambar Hanson): A ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Ambar Hanson, the Executive Director of the Mortenson Family Foundation. Since moving to Minnesota from the Dominican Republic 24 years ago, Hanson has worked tirelessly on behalf of immigrants and communities of color. Before joining Mortensen, she served as Chief External Relations Officer at Hiawatha Academies and spent over a decade advocating for domestic violence and survivors of abuse and assault through her work with Casa de Esperanza and the National Latina Network for Healthy Families and Communities.
  • Alfonso Fernandez: Alfonso Fernandez, who is in his 17th season as the play-by-play voice of the Twins’ Spanish-language broadcasts, will be featured throughout the night on the Target Field public address system.

Senator Miller serves on the board of the Morrie Miller Athletic Foundation, a Winona-area nonprofit that has raised nearly $3 million since 2004 to support youth athletics and facilities.
